People we can reach
Someone you trust, for the day you need a hand.
What a backup person can do
Social Security lets you name up to three people ahead of time. It is your choice, and it does not give anyone control of your account.
- They cannot see your accountNo payments, no letters, no signing in. And they can't ask for that on their own.
- They cannot move your moneyThey can never redirect your benefits or make decisions for you.
- They can only be calledThe only thing this does is let us phone them in the situations you choose.
Need someone to actually handle your benefits for you? That’s a different, bigger step. Ask us about a representative payee instead.
